BJ Barnes Architect, LLC, is an architecture firm focusing on the design of custom homes. Its founder, BJ Barnes is passionately involved in every aspect of the design process and enjoys working collaboratively with her clients to craft designs that fulfill their programmatic needs and aspirational visions.
BJ Barnes bases her practice on the Vitruvian design principles of Firmitas, Utilitas and Venustas, or solidity, usefulness and beauty. Her creativity results in homes that showcase attractive, practical design solutions. She is particularly versed in coastal vernacular design vocabularies.
BJ has designed homes in well-known New Urbanist communities such as I’On, Mount Pleasant SC, East Beach, Norfolk VA, and Celebration, FL.
Prior to establishing BJ Barnes Architect LLC, BJ worked for the firms of Arthur Cotton Moore, Kohn Pedersen Fox and Spillis Candela. She received both her Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Michigan. She is a member of AIA CRAN Charleston, is NCARB certified and holds Architectural Licenses in South Carolina and Virginia.
